HOT GIRL
History - Charts - Official Music Video

After her spectacular (and unexpected?) debut on the international market, Sabrina claimed that she wouldn't be just another one hit-wonder.Her team who was probably as optimistic, tried to score another hit. Unfortunately, the right follow-up single wasn't that obvious as not a lot of "strong" material was available on Sabrina's first album, by-then released. They finally chose Hot girl, a light and fresh typical italo-dance track. This song had been recorded before Boys and Sabrina had already performed it once on the Sandra e Raimondo Show during winter/spring of 1987. But as the original production probably sounded too similar to Sexy girl, it was decided to have it remixed for the single-release.

In many countries, Hot girl charted while Boys was still in the charts. Initially released in her native country, Hot girl peaked at #19, the same position reached by Sexy girl one year before. The single didn't do better in Germany (#19) even if her label tried to boost the sale by releasing two 7" and four 12", including a unique maxi featuring a completely new remixed version (which was one of the first collaborations with the PWL team who would later work on Boys for the UK-release).
Hot girl was more successful in the other European countries where it was released from early winter of 1987 till spring of 1988. It reached the top 10 in Finland and Holland and was a top 15-hit in Belgium, France and Switzerland. In Spain, the song almost topped the chart (#2) due to a massive promotion and the scandal provoked by her performance at the new Eve show (her breast popped out while she was dancing in a very enthusiastic way!). But on that time, any song by Sabrina could have been a hit in Spain…
The song was also released in Japan and in South America. If the chart positions are unknown, it's quite easy to think that it didn't do better than Boys. In fact, everywhere, Hot girl failed to sell as well as its predecessor and that's probably the reason why the single was finally not released in the UK and Australia.
But very few artists can be lucky enough to score 2 hits consecutively and Sabrina proved, even with a moderate second success, that she was the main Italian pop act of the year. And obviously, Hot girl wasn't a flop (#26 on the Eurochart Hot 100). That's why it's difficult to understand why most compilations released in the 1990s/early 2000s omitted the song contrary to Sexy girl which had been a smaller hit. Anyway, Sabrina didn't forget Hot girl when she re-recorded her hits for her comeback-album Erase / Rewind.
